This chromatin condenses in order to ready itself for replication, and forms structures called chromosomes. Each chromosome consists of two chromatids. Therefore, if there are 5 chromosomal pairs, there are 10 chromosomes. Each chromosome has two chromatids, which means that there are 20 chromatids.
